Dyspnea shortness of breath-Severe anemia can cause this disorder, because of failure of the heart to keep up with the needs of the body. Shortness of breath is also associated with emphysema, or fluid in the lungs, because the oxygen cannot enter the alveoli the tiny air sacs in the lungs.
